Honesty is tough to measure. But this is a huge problem for people who need lawyers. I think IT IS YOUR BIGGEST issue when you choose a lawyer. A dishonest lawyer can cost you thousands of dollars. Worse...he can ruin your life, family relations, business or credit or have you put in jail.
Times are tough. The most common problem I see is new clients who tell me that a lawyer took thousands of dollars, ruined their case , refused to give it back and got a money judgment against their credit by suing them. ( of course these victims could not afford an attorney to defend the suit).
A dishonest attorney can charge you way too much and you might not even know that he did so because you do not know the law.
Other new clients tell me that some lawyers estimated a $10,000 attorney fee when my price quote was $ 1000!
I spend some of my time fixing cases that I have taken over from other attorneys who have not been honest with their clients and who are pathetically bad. They usually end up suing clients for money they never earned!
